American Red Cross Swimming Instruction Level 5 & 6

This class will combine students in both Level 5 and 6 working together with the same instructor.

Please use the following prerequisites to determine the placement for your child.

Level 5 - Stroke Refinement
Requirements: Jump into water, swim front crawl 25 yards, back float for 1 minute, and swim elementary backstroke 15 yards. Swim breaststroke 15 yards, tread water 1 minute back crawl 25 yards. Skills Taught: Coordination and refinement of strokes, front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke; increase distances; and flip turns.

Level 6 - Swimming and Skill Proficiency/Pre-Swim Team:
Prerequisites include: Shallow dive, swim front crawl for 50 yards, back float for 1 minute, swim elementary backstroke 50 yards, swim breaststroke 25 yards, tread water for 5 minutes, swim back crawl 25 yards, front and backstroke flip turns and water safety elements.Skills Taught: Refine strokes so participants can swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances; they are able to swim continuously while using appropriate breathing techniques and turns for each stroke

Level 6 - Personal Water Safety Skills:
Participants will be able to swim all strokes proficiently, demonstrating effectiveness and efficiency, introduction to other aquatic activities, which prepares students to participate in other advanced aquatic courses and activities such as Water Safety Aide and Lifeguarding.
