American Red Cross Preschool SwimmingAmerican Red Cross Learn-to-Swim ClassesPreschool aquatics will teach basic aquatics skills, which children continue to build upon into the Learn-to-Swim levels. The instructors will encourage children to develop good attitudes and safe practices around the water. They will work on locomotion skills in the water and on using simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions. Level 1 - Introduction to Water SkillsRequirements: NONE. The objective of Level 1 is to help students feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water safely. Skills Taught: Elementary aquatic skills; development of good attitudes and safe practices around water; safety rules; buddy system; demonstration of buoyancy; and willingness to try new things and overcome fears. Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills Requirements: Enter water unassisted, move forward 5 yards, bob 5 times. Front float with support with face in water for 5 seconds, roll onto back and back float with support. Skills Taught: Success with fundamental skills; simultaneous and alternating arm and leg action on the front and back; retrieval of submerged objects, floats and glides, and self-help and basic rescue skills. Level 3 - Stroke DevelopmentRequirements: Enter chest deep water, front float 5 seconds, roll over to back float 5 seconds and stand up. Swim front crawl for 15 feet.Skills Taught: Coordinate the front crawl and back crawl, elementary backstroke; introduction to elements of butterfly and side stroke; increased treading water time; rules and skills for headfirst entry; and additional safety skills. Level 4 - Stroke ImprovementRequirements: Jump into water, swim front crawl 15 yards, tread water 30 seconds and then swim back crawl for 15 yards.Skills Taught: Developing confidence in the front and back crawl learned in previous levels; improve skills and increase endurance; build on butterfly; introduce elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke; and basics of turning at walls, survival swimming and various techniques for treading water. Recommended for ages 5-12.Spring/Summer 2026 -

Please use the following prerequisites to determine the placement for your child. Level 5 - Stroke RefinementRequirements: Jump into water, swim front crawl 25 yards, back float for 1 minute, and swim elementary backstroke 15 yards. Swim breaststroke 15 yards, tread water 1 minute back crawl 25 yards. Skills Taught: Coordination and refinement of strokes, front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke; increase distances; and flip turns. Level 6 - Swimming and Skill Proficiency/Pre-Swim Team:Prerequisites include: Shallow dive, swim front crawl for 50 yards, back float for 1 minute, swim elementary backstroke 50 yards, swim breaststroke 25 yards, tread water for 5 minutes, swim back crawl 25 yards, front and backstroke flip turns and water safety elements.Skills Taught: Refine strokes so participants can swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances; they are able to swim continuously while using appropriate breathing techniques and turns for each stroke Level 6 - Personal Water Safety Skills: Participants will be able to swim all strokes proficiently, demonstrating effectiveness and efficiency, introduction to other aquatic activities, which prepares students to participate in other advanced aquatic courses and activities such as Water Safety Aide and Lifeguarding.Spring/Summer 2026 -

Author Talk: Girls in a World at WarJust for You!Join Peggy Munro Scholberg as she shares her mother’s remarkable firsthand experiences serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, including her time stationed in France during the Battle of the Bulge. Through short readings from Girls in a World at War and a moving photo slideshow presentation, participants will step into a world shaped by courage, sacrifice, romance, tragedy, and hope. This engaging program brings history to life through personal stories and images that capture both the hardships and the humanity of wartime service. Light refreshments will be served. Autographed copies of the book will be available for purchase following the presentation. Peggy Munro Scholberg is honored to share her mother’s World War II story through the publication of Girls in a World at War. Peggy and her husband, Bill, live in Apple Valley, Minnesota, where they raised their two sons. Together, they retraced her parents’ travels throughout Europe and explored the history and locations connected to their wartime experiences. After a successful career as a pharmacy manager, Peggy is now enjoying retirement and the opportunity to bring her family’s remarkable story to audiences and readers. Like her mother, she enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and trying new recipes, while also sharing her father’s lifelong love of sports.Fall 2026 -
